Is there any any advantage in converting a GSF from XM to v8i other than compatibility with other verticals?
Hi Neil,
the V8i GSF's have had their format expanded for allow for future enhancements. We typically do this at a major release so that we are not making modifications at service updates.
There isn't any advantage (or disadvantage) in either format right at this moment.
But, as you realise, there is a difference.
You can open a XM GSF in V8i and continue to save it as a XM file. When the pop up message asks if you'd like to convert the file - answer no and it will remain in the XM format.
Hope this helps.
Unfortunately I wasn't paying attention to the message about changing the file format from XM to v8i and the default was to convert. Since it looked like the other dialogues that pop up when opening a project I just accepted as usual and opened one of my projects in v8i just to play around. Now I can't open it in XM. If it's a one way street I have hosed my project. At least in this case it is on my home machine which I use only for learning so this is not a serious problem, but if it happened on a project in production it would be quite serious. I think we need a way to convert back or else there needs to be a more prominent warning about the conversion.

There is a key in to save a V8i GSF file as a XM version GSF file.
The key in requires that Modeler is open and the the project you want saved to XM format is open/active.
