hello
I would like to highlight some issues i found in using openroads designer.
1. i realised that applying design standards in openroads designer does not give the warnings as was in the case of openroads in MX. i have attached an image of the same alignment in openroads in MX ( select series 4) and then openroads designer
2. i also realised that some default cells are missing from openroads designer. particularly the roundabout cells.
3. importing of survey points and the automatic drawing of features (field to finish for those who use Civil 3d or Calson software) is not working properly. infact there is no survey workflow in openroads designer update one. dont know if it has been updated in the update two.
4. for someone who has used civil 3d for sometime now, i believe that using civil civils to create intersections takes too long to process. if you are not lucky the software will crash. with the same machine and specs, i can create intersections in civil 3d with relative ease. i believe its something bentley has to look at. Not every student or professional can afford high end machines. A Decent machine with decent specs should be able to handle them with ease.
5. i may be mistaken or i havent explored that feature yet but i think the plan and profile production in openroads designer needs more improvement. one is unable to display levels say, exiting ground levels, design levels, horizontal and vertical geometry details, superelevation information and all.
6. and lastly, i dont knw if its bugs or what but the software care crashes too often, i can use civil 3d for a full day and it wont crash even ones but hardly can you use openroads desinger for one hour without it crashing.
machine specs
intel core i5 six generation, dual core 2.3Ghz with 8 gig ram and dedicated memory 4g nvidia graphics Geforce 940M
i find openroads designer very exciting and i am really fascinated with their 3d modelling and visualization capabilities which i think are better than the autodesk counterpart. but there are more issues to be solved and i hope the bentley team will read this and react accordingly.
.
Hi Daniel,
1. Can you share this alignment please?
2. You should have a Roundabouts_M.dgnlib available when you launch the Civil Cell command, see screenshot below. Did you have a look at it?
3. The topographic Survey Functionality is available in update 2
4. Have you watched the videos available on the learn server concerning how to use civil cells?
5. The update 2 has many new enhancements for the plan and profile production. You can have a look at the readme webpage here: https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/ui.xql?action=html&resource=publist_home.html
6. Which version of ORD are you using? Sorry you experience these crashes, after update 1 and now update 2 we can really feel the difference and the improvement in the performance and stability.
hiii Marc
Many thanks for your response. just want add on to the points and answers given,
1. i have attached the dgn file for you to also have a look at.
2. no i dont the roundabout cells.. what i have is exactly what you see in the image from my previous post
3. I will check that out in the update two
4.yes, i do know how to use civil cells. My point is i thiink the software takes too long before the civil cells is processed and then placed. if you have alot of junctions where you have to place a lot of cells, it can take forever. i use to think it was my machine specs but honestly i feel its more of software stability than hardware issues.
5. sure i will check that one out too.
6. I am currently using OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition Update 1 (10.01.00.15). I really hope the stability has improved as you are claiming in the update 2. the thing is i am not the only complaning about the frequent crashes when using the software. other students are also doing same.
1. cant seem to upload the dgn file.. i believe its the internet connection
