I'd like to be able to draw a path (2D) - both ends of a rectangular shape must follow that path (to simulate the transport of some heavy equipment along the path, to see how much space the transportation takes op when turning corners...)

Re: let rectangular shape follow path

Hello Martin,

I know some time has pased since your post and you will have probalby solved your problem.

But if you again need a solution for this task I believe this COMERCIAL aplication could help.

it is named AUTOTURN .

http://www.transoftsolutions.com/ProductVideoFeature.aspx?product=AT&video_id=253

I gave it a look some time ago and looked quite fine; It worked for Autocad and Microstation, but dont know if it suports the latest V8i;

Bye!

Hi,
As I mentioned before, please use DXF:
1. create custom linestyle
2. use this linestyle in visibility tool
3. export file to DXF (with 'drop unsupported LineStyles' option).
4. create region as you wish.
it works ok! See attached ScreenCam.

yes, probably we met. On newsgroup or BE or IR conferences. InRoads Users => one biiiig family :)

Regards,

Hi

I think I allready knew all that you showed in the vmw-file, but thanks anyway :o)

What I need is to change every single "sight-line" into a rectangular shape (as shown on my screendump)

But this is not absolutely nessasary, I can just offset (eye/object) to +/- half the vidth of the truck, to create each side of the turning truck

Have I met you before - your name seems familiar. Perhaps at some BE conference some years ago? Anyways, thanks!

Hi,

ScreenCam file attached. I also checked custom linestyle and it does not work (maybe export to DXF/DWG is way to do this...?).

Hi

I thougth of the visibility tool, but I had never used it in InRoads. I have set visibility distance to 50m - and it works (as soon as I have a dummy surface, otherwise it won't work)

If you have any specific tips, I'd be glad to hear in more detail, regarding how I can change the 50m long lines into shapes of a given width (the shapes needs to be snappable, so I guess it is not enough to change the width of the line)

Best regards, Martin

Hi Martin,

You can do this using InRoads and MicroStation (this is not a 'single click' way of doing this). Please use visibility tool (InRoads) first and then Create Region (MicroStation). To have a box shape (left and right offset) you can create a custom line style.

Regards,

If I had to guess (and I am, although it is an educated guess) I would think that the Microstation animation tools would be able to do what you ask. Check the help files for animation and there is one or more communities here dealing with animation. Again, I am speculating, but I would think that with the animation tools you could get the rectangle to move like you want.
