What is the correct method or approach to displaying construction limits (Cut & Fill lines) from a corridor in Power InRoads SS4?
Thanks,
Larry Nechanicky
Hi Larry:
Answering what is the "Correct" method may vary a bit depending on your project and client, so I'll answer what is an "mostly automatic" method.
First, you can get complete slope limits drawn automatically in the corridor simply by assigning a feature definition to the template points at top of cut and toe of fill. The feature definition needs to have the property set "Create Template Geometry" as true. Also, on these same template points you need to set the check box for "Feature Name Override" and populate the name identically for all cut and fill points. When this is done then the slope limits are drawn as a linear element in the 2D space, suitable for use on plans, maybe.
Why do I say maybe? Well, you will get a single line which follows all along the top of cut and the toe of fill and the line will have a single symbology. If all your slope limits are same symbology (level, color, style, weight) then you are golden.
But, in most places, the cut slopes and fill slopes are indicated differently. Here in TN, they are on the same level but the cut slope limits are solid and fill slope limits are dashed. You can do this also, but it is only 95% automatic. I've outlined the process for accomplishing this in the following: https://envisioncad.com/tips/openroads-generate-cut-fill-slope-limits-in-different-symbology/
