Annotation Groups Moving in Plan and Profiles!!!

Can anybody explain to me why our annotation groups keep moving???

Here, the profile annotation group, labels elevations, etc. just poof...

  • John,

check your text styles. I had a similar issue and a headache with that. and it revealed that my text styles line spacing was changed from 0.25 to 500.  Whenever I tried to change it back after a while it was 500 again. I just didn't save my text styles when exiting the editor.

However, from your print screen it looks, it can be caused by offsets set in Annotation Groups/Definitions for text labels. Hard to say without dgn.

  • Checked the text styles and the spacing looks good. I have a good feeling it's the annotation group labels, more so the whole annotation groups themselves. Groups will not update in models when changes are made to them, after re-associating them in our corridor files. Cells won't populate right inserted into annotation groups, yet work fine when simply placing them. The offsets are minute in the annotation group and the biggest headache is that this has happened at random times...it could be the 2nd, 3rd, or 8th time I go into the file then bam! Basically right now I'm going to kick the profiles out, merge into master in the file, and slap them on some sheets. We have a deadline tomorrow and looks like we won't be using OpenRoads on any projects, anytime soon, since our belief across the board is this appears to be a beta version with a lot of serious issues.

How long have you been using OpenRoads and what kind of system are you running?

  • I started with OpenRoads Technology when Inroads SS3 (2012/2013) was released (before that there were some civil tools in SS2), now PowerInroads v8i SS4 is my software of choice but I am working toward a pilot project in Openroads Designer CE. I was waiting for tabular annotations  and I ne the meanwhile prepared custom workspace. Now with Update 2  tabular annotations are there and I can speed up, however I miss SSD tools and have concerns regarding volume calculations. As a standard we used EAV method. I know that it was not as accurate as volumetric calculated mesh to mesh but there were some benefits (replacing unsuitable materials with fill material, easy check reports against values on cross-sections, etc.).

Basiacally I feel fully conversant with modelling tools and getting familiar with drawing production and quantities harvesting. Migrated workspace and enhanced it with new features, annotations, etc. Then I guess internal trening, few pilot projects (simple but yet compex enough to test software in depth). With initial release and Update 1 I had the feeling it was beta, so I used it for training only. Update 2 looks very promissing and with Update 3, IMO it will be complete enough for a pilot project. Hope with Update 4 it will become my software of choice.

    good luck with your project.

    Best,

    Adam
