Add Geometry Alignment's Station/Offset to InRoads Drainage Profile

I am wondering if there is a way to add a structure's station and offset (relative to a geometry project's alignement that is open) to a DRAINAGE profile?

I am currently importing drainage design files (.sdb) from Sewergems into InRoads to profile them using InRoads. I need the ability to open a Roadway Geometry project and then label inlets/manholes that are on my Drainage profile, with their respective station and offset from the currently active Roadway alignment.

When using the drafting profile notes, it seems the only alignment and station information that can be added is for the drainage alignment that is made when you create the drainage profile. This is NOT the station and offset information I want. The offset from this information is always zero since it's pulling it directly from the drainage alignment which is always along the drainage system that I'm currently profiling.

The roadway alignment may be 50 ft away from my drainage system, but I need to label each structure on the profile with the currently active geometry alignment. The information is there, so I'm not sure why it can't be added to the Profile note.

Can anyone please let me know if this is possible?

  • When you are displaying the Offset for a profile drafting note, it is not pulling that information as a dynamic read from an active alignment, but instead the alignment which the profile window is created from as the source.  The source of the profile is remembered and utilized when computing values from the geometry.  Anything that is 'computed' will be coming from the source alignment.

If you create a profile down the desired source alignment and then project the structures onto that profile (create Profile but change the Source for the Network to be "Existing Profile" and apply to project the structures of the network onto that roadway alignment profile, the offset label will read the offset value and not just display 0.00.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I understand the features you explained. I assume though, from your answer, that the feature that I asked about is not possible then..

With that being said, I think this would be a very valuable feature to be added in future releases. The drainage profiles that we typically cut are always along the drainage system itself and therefore projecting the drainage features onto the roadway alignment is not useful from a drainage profile prospective.

If a geometry project is open and a horizontal alignment is active, it seems reasonable that the program could have the ability to pull the station and offset of each drainage structure's "center point" and label it in a drainage profile that is shown from the source alignment.

    Thanks again for the response.
