ORD display problem

Hi, Just wondering if anyone else has come across this display problem, where as you move the cursor across the display monitor (1) the graphic disappear. ( as shown in the screen capture shot).

Im currently running the latest version ORD and the machines are new and capable of running the software.

Just to add a bit more

Ive tried all the various helps in the above link........

Ahhh this drives me pretty nuts, Im very frustrated with the ongoing display issues. Really I don’t have a clue on what is causing the problem. I use a standard HP two button mouse and all drivers are updated and the PC is above the basic spec requirements.

Ive lodge support request with both our IT team and Bentley support and have spent countless hour scouring the internet trying to work out why, nothing has ever helped.

  • Yes l have the same issue when running ORD. Our IT guys have put it down to a graphics hardware issue. We are running Windows 7 with nvida driver on a HP zbook. Our IT guys are stil looking into it no joy yet... A colleague of mine different company is running widows 10 same graphics card but newer driver version no issues. Yes I totally agree it drives you nuts. Been happening since prerelease ORD version reported issue to Bentley no joy to date. Our company moving to Windows 10 soon hopefully that will fix it.

  • Yes we are using window 7 as well, not unsure when are moving to 10.

I initially got the same advice being a graphic card issue, so I had our IT department remove the cards from our machine and run the internal graphics, this didn't work either.

We also use Nvida cards the Quadro k2200 card, but using the upgraded GPU cards should only help/fix the issue not create it. Bentley encourage the use of a dedicated GPU to enhance the program.

Overall I get disappointed when these graphics problems persist for years through different software release versions and we an as organisation renew and upgrade our PC's 2-3years in the hope that the issues don't occur.

  • Hi Cain,

I suppose a usualy answer from Bentley is that the problem is not inside Bentley software but in Nvidia drivers. In my opinion there is no way how to find whether it's true or not, but my experience is that these problems are reported solely by Nvidia users, not AMD or integrated Intel (but Intel is suitable for 2D drafting only, not for serious 3D work). Nvidia has long term problem with DirectX support quality (e.g. several times they claimed some DirectX feature is supported, but it was through slow software emulation only). Moreover they focus on OpenGL development for their professional cards (because more engineering software is OpenGL based), so to repair DirectX issues has no priority.

On the other hand, Bentely probably use something special in DirectX API, because from my customers I know typically only MicroStation based software have these problems, not others.

in the hope that the issues don't occur.

My feeling is that on Windows 10 there are less these problems, but there is still strong dependency on type of Nvidia card and the driver version :-(

  • Thanks Jan & Ross I appreciated the responses.

Looking at the provided information from Bentley on specifications to best run the high 3D modelling graphics we have met and exceeded. There is no information in regards to NOT using a particular brand of graphics card, only the cards to best stay away from and even then there is no reasoning as to why.

The displayed graphics problem needs to be address and if that means informing the operator to not use a brand of card that relies on DirectX then do so. Until Bentley systems either state exactly what to use or maybe a little easier what not to use then its their problem as we have met the stated requirements.
