I have continual issues with memory. I have 64 GB of RAM with a 2.60 GHz PC running on Win7 Pro. I have up to 12 corridors that are all under 4MB. The terrain is 100MB to 200MB.
I get shut down every 30 minutes or so with memory errors. I have only essential applications running on the system.
Are there any settings that I can check to improve the issue?
I'm assuming your still using an SS4 product where the OS limited the allocated memory to around 2.5GB since they were still 32bit apps. If this is the case, then you will get "Out of Memory" exceptions when it gets up near 2.5GB. Below are some things you can try:
1.) Reduce the amount of information your files are loading into memory. I have seen in the past were some users are loading orthos/terrains/reference files for their entire length of their project, even though they are working on a small portion of it. In these cases, we were up past 1.5GB of memory after simply opening the DGN. Is there any way you can reduce the amount of files needed in the area you are working.
2.) There is a setting in Windows called "Lock Pages in Memory" that can help with memory utilization. https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/1823/enabling-lock-pages-in-memory-under-windows-7-and-vista
3.) We have also seen a lot of success in setting the "MS_MEMORY_FREELIMIT" variable in your system environment variables. Below is picture of how I set mine when I used it to resolve an "Out of Memory" exception. I used the value 200,999 but still don't totally understand what each value does. Here I a link to a forum post where it was discussed in more detail: https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/f/microstation-forum/98803/ms_memory_freelimit
Is your Microstation V8i BIM compatible? https://lnkd.in/eJh9x36
Might be the above.. or if you have files with the Large Level Name definition warnings.Microstation must be installed by administrator, UAC set to none and users musts be given seLockMemoryPrivilege in Local Security policy only then can V8i access LARGE memory.
