Profile from 3D Line

I want to be able to create a a 2D Profile with station/elevation from a simple 3D line.  I have been trying to follow along on all sorts of work flows I have been finding, but with no luck.  Most involve a surface and I am not dealing with any surfaces.  I have been able to open the profile model and view the profile I am describing, but not able to go any further than viewing it.

Thank you for any help.  I am newer to the Microstation workflows.  I have always worked with AutoCAD based programs for survey and design.

  • Give this a try:

    1. In Tasks > Civil Tools > 3D Tools: find a tool called  Plan By 3D Element
    2. Pick the 3D line.
    3. The result is a new 2D element with profile that matches the 3D.
    4. If you need this profile in GPK file
      1. Makes sure the new 2D element has a feature defintion assigned
      2. Make sure that both the 2D element and profile have a name of less than 15 characters with no spaces or special characters
      3. Then use the Export to Native command found in Tasks > Civil Tools > General Geometry

  • Robert,

Thank you so much for this guidance.  I am able to follow steps 1-3.  But because I am new to Microstation I don't understand the 4th step.  I am not familiar with feature definitions.  Also I don't have a profile created.  At least I don't think I do.

I am also unsure of how to get the newly created 2D element in a profile with the stationing and elevation graphed and labeled.

    Thank you for your help.
