Is there a setting one can make in the element template of a feature, or the feature itself, where the plan version of a linear feature when visualized appears as lines and arcs, and not segmented as per what the template drop is given as?
My feeling is no, but worth a shot to ask the design community if one has been able to do this.
Thanks.
If you Have Create Template Geometry set to true, on your linear default settings of your feature definition, it should create arcs.

This answered my query, but it produces another question - is there a way to copy contents within a volume clip into another DGN? I have contents of the same level, in the same 3D space, but on 2 different elevations - one at zero, and another at the template drop elevation.
is there a way to vertically isolate the 2D information?
The preferred method would be to attach a reference, apply a volume clip, then merge into master the data and have only the data within the volume clip stay. But what happens in reality is ALL the data comes through, so the volume clip does not translate through references.
Is there a work around this, besides saving the file and deleting out the contents I don't want?
I got it - use a fence in a front-view to isolate the 2D work, and clip the reference this way. This is more powerful than the volume clip, and the merge into master function holds well
