  • There are a couple of ways to compute unsuitable materials on Cross Sections via the End Area Volumes command.

    1. You can delineiate area of unsuitable material as closed faatures in the original ground dtm and then apply a depth factor. this permits the user to have many types of unsuitable materials with any depteh defined for each shape.
Please remember that the Style determines the material in this context. Topsoil style = Topsoil when reported in the XML report.

    2. if you do not need that level of granularity in your reporting and computation, there is a simpler way. Use the unsuitable materials by station method. this method permits the user to have one constant stripping depth or a separate depth for cut and fills.

Once you have this information defined, you can save to settings for that cross section set so it can be later recalled for additional work later. This is an *.EAV file.

Once your settings are complete, you Apply to created the output. Please, don't forget your Annotation settings for graphic end area shape and text output and the Create XML Report checkbox.

Select the Evaluation\Volumes.xsl style sheet to format the raw XML output data.

    I hope this helps.

good luck and keep us posted on your progress,

  • Dear Thomas,

I would like to use unsitable material by feature to compute the volume. But The "ADD" button always in blank condition.

So I can't assign the depth factor. Thank You!

  • Looking at your screenshot, there are a couple of things to consider:

    1. Make sure that you have the correct surface set in the surface combo box.
    2. The features you need to use should be closed features. closed features in the surface will display in the "Available Closed Features" List box. Select the feature, key in a depth (positive value) and select Add.
