How do I create a clipped terrain model in OpenRoads? Are terrain models always created in the 3D model?
Hi Jason,
This wiki demonstrates how to create a clipped terrain model: https://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/w/road_and_site_design__wiki/17434/video-terrain-model-clipping. Terrain models are always created in the 3D model or 3D dgn. It is best practice to create a terrain model in a 3D dgn, and reference it to the 2D space of your 2D dgn project file.

Thanks, Holly! My ultimate goal here is to view right-of-way lines in cross section view. I needed to create a terrain from the TIN that I have, but I only need a portion of that TIN in my terrain. So I should create the clipped terrain in a separate file and then attach it to my right-of-way file?
Best practice is to create the terrain in a 3D dgn, then reference it to the 2D instance of the project dgn. So if you want to follow this, then create the terrain in a 3D dgn. Reference this to the 2D model of your ROW file. Set it active and it will automatically create a Default-3D model. From there, run your cross sections.
Does the tool allow me to clip a terrain model to a shape?
Yes
