If the symbology is changed by the designer, is there a way to insure they stay as changed within that design?

Robert,

The DEFINE in the Project Manager was exactly what I needed. Guess I or my mentors never related the two. Thanks much!

What happens in the pattern box if you want to do sideroads? Mulitple ones? Should it keep track of every chain? What happens if you inherited the job from someone else and the runs used something else before but you are adding a few cross sections. Should it choose your default or what was already there.

I understand what you are saying but it isn't really viable in the big sceam of things. There are just too many options. Better just to keep a heads up.

Plus if you are in the any dialog you can right click in the box and choose by many options.

Robert,

Does the GPK variable you told me about override Modeler Preferences? If I set GPK_SET_LEVEL_BYLEVELS=1 and then load my Modeler preferences, all my object symbology does not update. I noticed this on my home machine as well so don't think it is the variable since I don't have it set on my home machine. It seems to be an issue with Power Civil v8i. I started a new thread on this.

Bob - I've been away from road design for a while now so take the following as "suggestions" and not abolute gospel.

First I would have expected that after the first use of the dialog that the symbology would be preserved and retained the next time you open it. I'm sort of guessing because I just don't remember. If they are intended to be preserved then they would probably be stored in a RSC file. Are the other dialog entries being preserved between uses of the tool? If yes then then things are probably working as designed. If no, then maybe there is a problem with your RSC files. In Windows Vista, in particular, you need write access to the bin directlory to properly create the RSC files.

Second, are you using Project Manager? If yes, then be sure to define the values for pattern lines in the project run which should populate the dialog when it starts.

If these suggestions don't help, then Derricke should be around soon and can probably better address your question.

Re: Default symbology settings in dialogs.

That variable is just what I want. I wish I knew about it sooner. TY!

Re: Default symbology settings in dialogs.

The above dialog box is what I'm refering to. There are a few similiar to this within the project manager process.

Would like to default this to Level = P_GEOPAK_PETTERNLINES_DESIGN, Color = 1.

Even after changing and using this dialog box, the symbology is not saved. Bob

Bob - I don't know the answer to your question, exactly. Have you tried using the D&C Manager with the place influence check mark turned on? By doing this, all you have to do is pick the design feature you want and the symbology takes care of itself.

Neil - IN addition to the above, all you have to do is set the Microstation active color, weight and style to bylevel and then all that has to be adjusted is to change the active level. In addition, since you are a PowerCivil user, you can set the variable GPK_LEVEL_SET_BYLEVELS = 1 and all the Geopak/PowerCivil symbology boxes will function the same way. IE all you do is choose the level and color, weight, style are always bylevel.

It is a needless waste of time having to change these settings over and over.
