Is there a way to delete INTERIOR triangles. I tried using the delete with line tool and no triangles were deleted (after a LONG wait).
You could draw a closed shape and then add it to the terrain as a Draped Void element - the area inside the shape will be 'deleted'. The element does not need to have any levels, as it will be draped onto the terrain.
It's a dtm created from a lidar data set of a coastal area. I want to delete the water between the islands and mainland. Creating a shape would be very difficult given the thousands of points defining the water edges.
You have topographic map features which show the location of the water edge right? I would copy these and make a complex shape from them, or use the flood fill capability of create region to make a shape of the water area.
Then, since the topo features may be 2D, add this shape to the terrain model as a drape void.
Also, in the future, I would adjust my deliverable spec for my LiDAR subs to require that the water areas of the point cloud be removed or properly classified.

Given that the data is purely points, creating the shape from the points would be tedious and laborious. However, coastal area/tides/LIDAR inaccuracies etc. would mean that the points are not an exact representation, so how accurate would your shape need to be?
Obviously there may be several work-arounds for this situation. I'm more interested in the functionality of the delete triangle by line tool. I'm an OLD inroads user from way back and the delete triangle tool is indispensable.
Were you able to find a way to delete interior triangles. Am using 2020 release 2. A
m still not able to delete triangles in the interior even if the surface is not Ruled.
