I did a dumb thing. While tinkering around to setup OpenRoads Designer the way I want, I used the Customize Toolbar dialog to import an XML file that I exported from Microstation SS4. Ever since then, I get a huge list of Unable to load/create dialog item of type 'IconCmd' errors and several very important tools are missing from the modify toolbar.
I've tried the following with no effect:
- Uninstall / reinstall OpenRoads Designer
- Run OpenRoads Designer with "-restoredefaults" added to the shortcut command
- Deleted the files in my c:\Users\....\AppData\Local\Bentley\OpenRoadsDesigner directory.
How do I undo this and get OpenRoads back to normal?
Try a clean uninstall/reinstall:
1. Uninstall OpenRoads Designer
2. Delete these folders:

Wow, I thought that would work - but no! I uninstalled, deleted those folders, reinstalled, and the Modify toolbar is still missing a handful of icons and reporting the same "IconCmd" errors.
I have a huge pile of other Bentley software installed - Microstation SS4, InRoads SS2 & SS4, OpenRoads Concept Station. Could Designer be sharing files with any of these?
I don't think so, but we can try deleting the registry keys too.
Windows Registry
Clean the Windows Registry of any leftover keys. Note: Be careful to follow these steps carefully and do not delete anything else.
Open the Registry Editor by going to Start > Run > Regedit.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bentley and delete the OpenRoadsDesigner key.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bentley and delete the OpenRoadsDesigner key
Exit Regedit.exe.
Marcus - thanks for the guidance. Unfortunately, neither of those registry keys existed so there was nothing to delete.
I tried uninstalling, deleting the folders, reinstalling again to no avail.
The "Modify" toolbar selected under the "Tool Boxes" option appears fine, is missing icons when selected from the "Main Tasks" option, as shown below. Perhaps this is something I can live with.
Are you aware of an easy way to navigate through the Customize Toolbar dialog so I can reset everything manually? Is there an XML file I can import?
Thanks!
Has there been any more progress on this issue? I am using ORD 2018 Update 3 and am seeing these errors. The issue is identical to what Steven reported months ago. According to my tests these errors are being caused by the CIFCmmands dgnlib delivered in the product. This library is trying to load main tasks items from an ancient version of MicroStation.
