I loaded the latest version of InRoads Ss4 which was a MR [08.11.09.904]. I was getting ready to run the View Crossing Breaklines tool and noticed on the toolbar and menus seem to be missing the command. Actually, the toolbar and menu icons for View Surface are off by one icon, starting with the Annotate Features command, which is actually displaying the View Components command which in Ss4 is actually obsolete.
If you continue down the toolbar (or menu) some icons are actually for its neighbor to the left while others seem swapped. Until you get to the Crossing Segments icon which actually runs the Inferred Breaklines tool. From there, they are all shifted to the right one tool/icon.
Even the MicroStation key-in "inroadssurface viewsurface crossingsegments" returns a command not available.
Since Ss4 no longer creates surfaces with components as these are all byproducts of Corridor creation, I agree that view Components is obsolete. But Crossing Breaklines can still be created in Ss4 and should still have tools to identify, analyse and possible correct.
The lack of the View Components tool is a problem if you are working with design surfaces created in SS2 or earlier. In order to use the components, you need to either: 1) display them in SS2 or 2) display the features and rebuild the components manually.
I would argue that the View Components tool is not obsolete if you are working with any legacy (SS2 or earlier) design data.
