The lack of the View Components tool is a problem if you are working with design surfaces created in SS2 or earlier. In order to use the components, you need to either: 1) display them in SS2 or 2) display the features and rebuild the components manually.

I would argue that the View Components tool is not obsolete if you are working with any legacy (SS2 or earlier) design data.

I need to preserve feature information in my crossing analysis. In other words, when a feature representing a proposed pipe crosses a feature representing an existing underground electric line, the output needs to contain that information.

Since breaklines in a Terrain Element have no feature definition, what would be the result if I used linked to graphics features to build the terrain element? Would the report give more information? For that matter, why are the two breaklines listed in blue and red?

The Report Crossing Features tool under the Terrain Model Tasks will do what View Crossing Breaklines from SS2 did.
