Inroads Decimal Points

Hi

I'm working on a large project with multiple design packages and we are required to read in other's outputs from CAD.

My problem is that the Inroads outputs as CAD files are never more accurate the 3 decimal places which is proving problematic when using these feature strings to generate superelevation lines from other packages.

Iv tried changing it in two places and regenerated my surfaces then output my feature strings again. The only change is after the first 3 decimals it just adds zeros to the level of accuacy i specified. Is there another way to change the accuracy? This is affecting a large number of users, we would all be grateful for your help.

  • Just to add to that. The XML reports show all the information i need.

  • Hi David there are two areas that we need to look at.

First - We need to ensure the installation is correct according to the Bentley Civil V8i (SELECTseries 2) Requirements - VS - CAD Platform MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 2), MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3), AutoCAD 2008, AutoCAD 2009, AutoCAD 2010, AutoCAD 2011or AutoCAD 2012.  The InRoads Group and MX do not support AutoCAD as the platform on a 64 bit operating system.  GEOPAK does not support AutoCAD.

Second - Exploring other means of sharing date through Exporting InRoads Data for Construction.

But why not OpenRoads Designer as an alternative to be identified as a future workflow rather than spending time on old technology - the design file is already in a CAD dgn format and the complexity of additional Application with a data input will be eliminated.

  • Hi JP

Yes future workflows will change. I cant bare the olde software any longer ;-)

For now we are locked into product versions for this project. We suspect the installation package version we are using has a fault as our joint venture partner does not have the same problem. All their dtm files have sufficient decimal places, only ones created by our installation are limited to 3 decimal places.

The error has thus been narrowed down to how dtm's are created using (08.11.07.615). Strange that features come out correct only when displayed as the dtm is created not when viewed from a dtm.

  • Hi David

It always felt like Vendors do not always sit around the same table. The other day I have been involved with a AUTODESK presentation and the made it clear that everything need to be done in there product. I think it would always be the same even with Bentley Systems. As designers using the applications we will always have to find a way to provide a final design, at the end  for us it do not matter what Vendor application we use, as long as the design is correct.

I will have to try and get hold of compatible versions of InRoads and MicroStation, we might also have to look at PowerCivil SS4 to see if we can extract the data.

  • Hi David,

We are experiencing the same problem.
When we go to create surface in Roadway Designer and we select the tick box called Display in plan view: Features, then the features are displayed as 6 decimals.

However as soon as we go to surface-view-features, the features are written out with 3 decimals.

We have changed drawings settings, Inroads settings and nothing seems to solve the problem.

The triangles can only be viewed through surface-view-triangles and these outputs are also produced with only 3 decimal places.
