"Process All" in Roadway Designer

This might be an elementary question, but what is the reasoning behind using "Process All" toggle when creating a dtm?  Do you need to "Process All" before you create your surface?

  • Ray,

A Process All does not need to be performed before creating a surface,  Create Surface does a Process All behind the scenes.  It is used to create a clean design that can be reviewed inside of Roadway Designer.

Process All does a couple of things that won't happen when stepping up and down the corridor.  First it removes all previously processed stations.  It then redetermines stations to be processed based on the toggles set in the Options dialog.  This includes calculating alignment and external control stations.  In fact, the only time Alignment cardinal and event points and external control points are shown in Roadway Designer is when a Process All is performed.

  • One more side question......

I process the template, and then display all the components in a cross section set.  Then I make some changes and "Process All" again.  It seems to break the link with the existing displayed components.  Should this happen?

It keeps me from being able to use the "Update Cross Section" command to Refresh, or Display Off the components.

  • Process All does not update the design surface.  It only updates the information inside of Roadway Designer.  You need to run Create Surface again to recreate or update the design surface.  If you empty and recreate the design surface, then none of the graphics in your cross sections will be linked to the design surface because all the original features and components have been removed from the surface.

  • Denis, Is there a fix coming in the future for the "Update Cross Section"? We have a couple of clients that only build from cross-sections. They are very detailed, and when we need to make a change this becomes a problem because the graphics (components) do not refresh. Also, I would love to update by station range. I know that in v8.5 the surfaces needed to be loaded from the RWK file. GUID problems? I have tried the same with v08.09.12 with no luck. If there is a fix in any update, please let me know.

    Thanks as Always
