ORD Update 3 Using Text Fields From Model Properties To Annotate Title Blocks

I'm in the process of setting up text fields from model properties to automatically fill in the annotation in our title blocks and I have a few questions and observations.

Once in the Text Editor I select Model Properties and the Fields Editor menu opens.  At this point I would begin selecting items from the General tab that I want to populate my title block with.  My issue is I need more fields than what is available to me in this menu.  Our title block contains three lines of text for customer information (customer name, project description and location for example) and three lines of text for the type of work represented on that particular sheet model(s) (for example, Finish Grade Plan, Sta. 123+00 To Sta. 456+00, North Bound Lane).  Is there a way to add additional fields as required?  Can fields be added to represent the start and stop stations represented in the named boundary that the drawing and sheet models pull from?

It would be nice to be able to add additional fields as required under the General tab in the Fields Editor so that all the title block annotation can automatically filled in.

Does anyone know of a way to do this or can it be done some other way within the OpenRoads environment?

Thanks,

Chris

  • You may need to add custom properties to the file like as shown below.

then after you create them you will need to select the file properties from the Select Field Type dialog and your newly created custom properties will be available to you.

As far as  the other items I am still working on that myself.

  • Hi Gerald,

In theory this does work...to a degree.  At least I think.  I can add custom properties to my workset as you suggested but those properties, when assigned to a text field in my sheet seed border, are going to be the same on all drawings created in that workset.  For the customer information that may or may not be OK but for the annotation dealing with project information this wont work.  This will, again, annotate all sheets with the same information based on the workset custom properties even though some sheets may be for subgrade while another might deal with bridge decks.

Also, our sheet seed border dgnlib files aren't associated with any workset.  All workspaces and worksets use the same set of sheet seeds and I'm not sure how this would work due to that.  I'm completely open to suggestions though.  I'm by no means an expert.

  • Why hasn't this been answered? Being able to change what an entire set of sheets says is important. but being able to easily edit a model or small group of models from the sheet index is also useful. You should be able to add custom model properties.
