I have the task of raising 3 buildings on a site that I modeled some months ago. I can't remember which elements are related to which or which elements have no relationships. Before I can start editing I need to establish which elements to manipulate without breaking relationships and without violating the contrstaints on the grading. I know how to look at relationships of individual elements using the Modeler element info tool but it is overwhelming to try to understand a site that way. I also know how to display all the elements that belong to an object but that is little help in understanding how they are related.
One thing I need to know is what elements have been draped onto an object. Knowing that would eliminate a lot of investigating since I know those elements will update with the object. Is there anyway to show all elements that are dependent on an object?
Hi Neil,
We are developing graphically displayed dependancies (think "heads up display") to enhance the association referencing feedback for the situation you describe. Unfortunately, that doesnt help you right this minute.
My suggestion is this.
Given that you have the "task of raising 3 buildings", I'd approach in this manner.
1) Do as you have done - Element>Info on the first of the building pads.
2) Look at the Element>Associations>Dependant Associations for that pad element. The dependant associations will show you what element/s will change if the Pad is modified. There is a "highlight" option that will visually show you what element/s have a dependant relationship to the Pad element.
3) If there are no dependant associations - you are in the clear. Change the building pad elevation using whatever method best suits.
4) If there are dependant associations, note which elements they are. Now go to Elements>Change Association. Set the Association to "Off", select the "depenadant" elements and click Apply. This will diable the associations of those dependant elements to the Building Pad. They will not be updated when Building Pad is modified.
5) Repeat the process for your other Building pads.
HTHs...
