Power Civil: Element Dependencies

I have the task of raising 3 buildings on a site that I modeled some months ago. I can't remember which elements are related to which or which elements have no relationships. Before I can start editing I need to establish which elements to manipulate without breaking relationships and without violating the contrstaints on the grading. I know how to look at relationships of individual elements using the Modeler element info tool but it is overwhelming to try to understand a site that way. I also know how to display all the elements that belong to an object but that is little help in understanding how they are related.

One thing I need to know is what elements have been draped onto an object. Knowing that would eliminate a lot of investigating since I know those elements will update with the object. Is there anyway to show all elements that are dependent on an object?

I know this is a complicated situation to address in a forum but this has been one of my fears with this software since there are no physical entities between the elements to give information about their relationships. Has anyone else had difficulties in this regard? I am open to ideas on how to deciipher a grading model.

  • The element info tool is the best resource to trace dependencies, as far as I know.

Having said that, I am curious why a wholesale dependency investigation is necessary.

Assuming I understand correctly you need to raise the elevation of 3 building pads. Further assuming that there are no other complicating needs the process whould be as simple as:

    1. Raise the building pads. (one at a time perhaps)
    2. Inspect the areas of the model (using various analysis tools) to see if anything went wonky after raising.
    3. If you see any wonkiness then element info might be useful to determine realtionships of the messed up elements.
    4. Recompute the wonky elements.  There might be none or there might be a few, depending on the methods used to establish the elements originally.
