Good day,
I've searched high and low and haven't found an answer or question even already online regarding this problem.
I'm just trying to add element notation to add station details to a geometry baseline, but it locks up for several minutes when it does work, even on very small length geometry lines, and is regularly locking up permanently and forcing me to crash the software, even if I give it half an hour, walk away and come back to check on any progress.
I'm fairly inexperienced with OpenRoads and MicroStation, so I'm not sure if I'm missing an obvious solution, maybe turning off a function while I add station notation?
To clarify, I am having this issue within OpenRoads, not MicroStation. Maybe I should just try run this procedure in MicroStation instead?
If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
I did collect a .DMP file when it last locked up, in case that assists in analyzing the issue.
Thanks and regards,
Giles Munyard
Giles,
How are you notating the station details? Are you using Annotation Definitions? Place Text? You should not be experiencing this type of behavior with annotating stations. Here's an example of annotating stations using Annotation Definitions within Feature Definitions: https://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/w/road_and_site_design__wiki/34981/video-editing-the-station-format-of-a-horizontal-alignment-s-annotation.

Thanks for the response Holly.
Yes, I'm using the same functions to add the station notation as what you just showed in that video between 20 and 25 seconds into the video. The steps I'm taking are:
Within OpenRoads Modeling workflow, my steps are:
It works most of the time, although Annotat Element is generally taking about 4 minutes (circling cursor pops up, sometimes software lists as not responding, but if I wait 5 minutes or so it gets there - this shouldn't be happening. But on one or two side roads it locks up every time and won't complete that process no matter how long I wait - I've left it over lunch breaks twice, for 30-60 minutes, still locked.
Clearly there's a step within the process that is failing, but it doesn't seem like our workplace's security causing it or it should happen every time. I've tried recreating the horiz geom line many times to ensure I haven't caused some other problem, but nothing seems to allow this annotation step to complete on a few of these alignments.
Has anyone reported this kind of issue before?
Could you attach a dgn that has the Annotation Group contained in it with an alignment that experiences this delay? I can look to see if I see anything wrong. Are you on the latest release of ORD?
You can upload data here: https://bentley.sharefile.com/r-r30f454b8cb94e5b8.
File uploaded, thanks for that.
(This is a stripped down file with just the one example that consistently fails - others sometimes appear to fail, this one always does, and it still locks up trying to annotate it.)
I annotated the alignment with no significant lag. It looks like you're using the Bentley provided annotation with the Geom_baseline Feature Definition you have assigned to the dgn? You could try moving this folder to your desktop so that it recreates in the original location: C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\Bentley\OpenRoadsDesigner\10.0.0. See if you still lag after doing this. I also noticed that the dgn was created in Update 3. I was able to successfully annotate in both Update 3 and Update 4. It will probably also be helpful for you to upgrade the software.
