I have been trying to use the new tool in Power Civil v8i to create a LandXML file from a Land Desktop project (UILauncher.exe).
Once the LandXML file is created, how do I import the data into Power Civil? The XML file may contain several surface models, alignments, profiles, points, etc. The Data import routine in Power Civil doesn't seem to recognize the multiple surfaces or give the option to select a surface for import. Also when I try to import COGO points from the same XML file Power Civil crashes. I know that in Power Civil XM, points, alignments and surface data had to be in seperate XML files. Is it possible that v8i is the same and thus it can't handle the multiple data types in the Land Desktop XML file?

There are some known issues in the landXML import into Geopak/PowerCivil, some of which you have mentioned. Work is underway to address these issues. Of course, that does not help you today. I would suggest a call to our support line and send the XML files in question to see what is the best solution. Or post a sample XML here and someone can probably help.
Perhaps the highest hurdle to cross is the question of multiple surfaces in a single XML which is a current limitation in Geopak/PowerCivil.
The LandXML question is one of particular interest to me as it has been one of my areas of investigation in recent weeks. If you can post (or email me) a sample file then I will take a look myself. Keep in mid though that the support line will be more responsive than I can be. But, if you can work with me I will be happy to help.

Here is a file I created from a small project that is just started. It only has the existing ground dtm and the cogo points. I wasn't able to get the points into a GPK and I had problems getting the surface into modeler. My main reason for posting wasn't to get help with this particular project but more to see if the new tool would save some steps in getting the data into new projects. Apparently it is not fully functional. Until it is working properly I can get the data I need the old way so there is no urgency on my part. I'll let you decide if you want to play with the data. Now that I know the issue is not in my workflow I'll move on.
Thanks for looking in to it.

I am having issues with the LandXML file created by this tool. The surface perimeter elements come in correctly, but contours do not.
Those use 2 decimal of precision and there are spaces between the values in their PntList3d.
The contours use 10 places of precision, and end up looking like this:
<Contour elev="124"> <PntList2D>4838960.1817935063 315609.097008248854838962.8866666583 315606.881953110864838963.5406577028 315606.322147642614838965.4979656413 315604.10052838984838968.1809842438 315602.070472425964838968.9527272582 315601.407937575544838970.235724126 315599.339986194394838972.4494550321 315597.46103540684838973.2246478712 315596.781633793324838975.1894545332 315595.315818169854838977.0185852889 315593.824202482124838979.4144927422 315592.039971002144838980.594951747 315591.126270091574838981.269184933 315588.82862068024838982.72149921 315585.695193183614838983.4784201728 315585.16123777294838984.6669522049 315582.980247100174838987.8687913781 315580.96197017764838988.4184494605 315580.22524388674838992.7551748184 315579.1392657164838993.6883783648 315578.574864850854838997.1674999949 315577.442499983244838998.6394583983 315576.9901353834839001.10409998 315575.421199986944839006.6052417755 315571.732088951164839008.4553862065 315570.856597058594839011.0917025795 315569.096874975664839012.5912814485 315568.2986269834839014.0192670673 315566.46388963267</PntList2D> </Contour>
The Northing values are large enough that the easting coordinates after the decimal run into the northing value.
Also, some contours list these elevation as nn.00000001 which obviously is not critical, but reducing the precision will also fix this.

Hi Cadcop,
I'm working on verifying this. Will get back to you once I can track down that data.
Thanks,
