Applying Linear End Conditions vs Template End Conditions

What are the pros and cons of using a linear end condition applied to the edge of another template as opposed to having end conditions built out in the template itself?  I am in the process of designing a roadway that will have different end conditions applied on the left and right edge of pavement varying from no sidewalk with toe of slope from the edge of pavement, sidewalk with toe of fill behind walk, and sidewalk with retaining wall and toe of fill behind wall to name a few.  I would like to avoid making multiple combinations of templates reflecting the varying combinations of end conditions on the left and right side, and would like to avoid making a complex template with display rules for the end conditions.  Would applying linear end condition be an appropriate approach?

I'm operating in Inroads SS4 and have concerns a linear end condition approach could cause an "Out of Memory" error.  I also wasn't sure if there was a disadvantage of detaching the quantities from the mainline stationing etc.
