InRoads Survey XM w/ AutoCAD & bylayer linestyles

Running InRoads 8.9.2.16 inside of AutoCAD 2008. When writing Survey Data to Graphics, the linework is taking on the bylayer linestyles instead of using the bylayer settings. If I set a linestyle, it uses that linestyle, even if the layer's linestyle is different. But when I set it to bylayer, it writes ti to the file with a forced linestyle instead of bylayer.

The XIN originated in a MicroStation session, if that is significant.

I also noticed there is no Named Symbology tools in the AutoCAD world. Can I export and import named symbologies while in MicroStation and have the end result work OK in AutoCAD? It looks like the global named symbology tool writes some information that is only used by MicroStation and does not write some information that is used by AutoCAD.

As I need to make bulk edits, the import export option seems to be the only viable alternative.

Can I also get an explanation of which fields contain different data depending upon the platform used? I'm very used to working with XML data in its native format and could use a text editor if necessary.

PS - The CADDCOP is now hanging his hat at a new firm. The economic downturn resulted in only a minor hiccup in my career.

  • I am currently running 8.09.03.06 in eith XM or LDD 2007 and the Survey linework that is set to bylayer does not get placed by layer.

what happens is that the bylayer symbology is assigned to the linework. For example, my BLDG alpha code is my BLDG style and it is set to bylayer color and linestyle. In my DWG file, the layer for my BLDG style is BLDG-LINE and is set to color 32 and Continuous.

When I write my survey to graphics, the BLDG lines are placed on the layer BLDG-LINE, but are assigned color 32 and linestyle Continuous, instead of bylayer. Without the bylayer color and linestyle, other users cannot use these as XREF's and change their symbology.

    Blocks work as expected.

I've attacehd a zip file containing a DWT, XIN and FWD file. Not all linework has been set to bylayer. I stopped updating those since it was not giving me the desired results. BLDG, METFEN, DI and INLET are ones that are set to bylevel. At least 3 of those are used in this survey.

  • Thanks Jason,

I am seeing one more anomaly.

Any custom code placed labels that are a single line of text appear properly.

Any that have more than one line, the first line is OK, but all subsequent lines are duplicated with a very slight offset. If you zoom way in, you can see doubled text and it is selectable as doubled with slightly dfferent coordinates.

Same data in MicroStation is not manifesting this. Even with the same XIN.

And only when the graphics are written to file.

We also turn off temporary graphics prior to writing permanent graphics to make sure the temporary layers are empty and can be easily purged.

Final observation, When the FWD is first opened, I get that "The CAD is busy" dialog box even though I only tried to open the FWD and then patiently waited. And the text is not initially honoring the text styles until I regenerate graphics. If I fail to regenerate graphics at least once, when I write survey to graphics, the graphics written to file also do not honor the text styles.

It still beats LDD and Carlson hands down!!!!!!
