I might suggest you are using the command wrong. The first element to select is the one that is used as the cutting edge. The line (or points) is for the elements to be trimmed. This command can also operate using a selection set.

Elements are Line/Arc/Complex element. As I already mentioned, the same element can be modified with other trimming tool.

What type of element are you attempting to trim? Not all elements are suitable for trimming. Some elements may not be modified other than by the owning application (in your case MX Roads).
