Has anyone come up with an efficient way to compile a single DGN file with cross sections in OpenRoads Designer? Currently, we are referencing all of the XS models into a nested compiled file, which is tedious and inefficient. I submitted a product enhancement request for this (option working sections similar to an SS2/SS4 XS set and option to created single DGN XS sheets) but I was wondering if anyone has a work around until (if) they get to this? Running ORD release 3 (10.05.00.30).
Thanks,
Justin
Hi Justin,
What sort of functionality are you missing when the cross sections are in separate models versus all in one model?

Holly,
The way the cross sections are now managed in ORD is very unwieldy and frustrating. If you have hundreds of sections you have to tab through a forest of models to get to individual ones ... a very inefficient process. Why not provide an option to organize them in a single model space ... similar to the way it is done in the legacy software (InRoads and Geopak)? Even the competing product (Civil 3D) keeps cross sections in a single model space where it is simpler to manage them ... plus they remain dynamic.
I have attempted to point this issue out to various folks at Bentley on several occasions hoping this can be addressed soon. The response I get is that the cross sections work this way to take advantage of OpenRoads Technology and maintain their dynamic links. But, isn't Bentley capable of providing a great solution without breaking the software?
I am very surprised that Bentley does not understand why users are frustrated or even bewildered by this issue.
I will also note that Enhancement 869325 was filed 2 years ago requesting this enhancement, but the issue was never addressed in any subsequent updates (https://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/i/openroads_conceptstation/openroads-designer-plan-production-add-an-option-for-plan-profile-and-cross-section-plan-production-workflows-using-a-single-model)
