How can I get the tool to result in a line not an arc? Using the Make Single Element mode, even if the line string is a roughly straight line, the result is always a curve. The radius of the fitted arc is sometimes incredibly large, like 325,067 feet for example, so it looks like a straight line. I would like to just get a linear regression like in Geopak Cogo Best Fit Tool.
Chris,
The tool cannot result in a straight line. A workaround could be to manually draw a line by snapping to the end points of the result using the Make Single Element mode.

Thanks Holly, that is really good to know. The most important best fit use for me is fitting tangents to survey data. I use the cogo best fit for this all the time and it seems so much more functional than the openroads tool. Is there some equivalent in openroads? I am concerned about losing access to it eventually.
Still waiting on an answer for this? I use the Horizontal Regression tool with InRoads SS3 and it works great, but now with OpenRoads Designer I don't see a replacement for this. Best fit LINES are a very important part of what we do and I can't imagine Bentley would just do away with such a crucial command. The "workaround" of drawing a line between the ends of the ARC that's created would not even come close.
I'd like to echo Joel's and Chris's comments on the need for the horizontal and vertical regression tools to be incorporated back into the software. I was told awhile back that OpenRail Designer was going to contain these regression tools, but I haven't seen them included yet. Generation of regressed geometry is crucial in the roadway (and rail) design world when it comes to matching existing geometry, verify as-built plans, or generate proposed geometry in an extremely constrained area. Most of us need to generate calculation packages to support geometry that shows up on plans, and simply connecting the dots at the beginning and end of a tangent area doesn't come close to the standard of care that is required for our clients.

OpenRail Designer has a host of regression tools. Here's a snip from OpenRail and a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG2cD9dJLjk
Holly, we need the Regression tools back in OpenRoads like they used to be in InRoads.
I totally agree with Justin Guiliano. The regression tools are very necessary also in OpenRoads not only in openrail.
Is it possible to include them en Openroads Designer?
