ORD, is there way to set a delay for response time when working on a server?

I noticed that when working with openroads it's much much more stable when the files are stored localy on my machine that when they are on our company server.  Am I the only one having this kind of experience?

Maybe there is a way to set a delay if the program does not have a response from the file before crashing?

I know the easy solution is to get Projectwise but that is not an option now.
