Terrain snapping to 0,0,0

I am creating a terrain from elements (3D contours) using the following settings:

Feature Type: Contour

Edge Method: Max Tri Length

Max. Side Length: 200'

Feature Def: Existing  Contours

Name: Existing Contours

The only elements in the file are located north and east of coordinate 940,000, 625,000.

This all works fine except that when the terrain is created, the boundary results in a sliver that extends to 0,0,0 (roughly 1,130,000' to the southwest). The sliver does not appear to be controlled by Max Side Length as it is 65' wide at the graphic elements.

How can this be corrected?

Thanks in advance!

  • Yes, there is no element (that I can locate) at 0,0,0. The terrain boundary obviously has a vertex at that point and I cannot seem to affect it. If it could be moved (e.g. using DTM tools or Edit Terrain Model tools) it might solve the problem, but that doesn't seem to be possible. I successfully deleted the vertex using the 'Delete Vertex' tool from the Edit Terrain Model tools but when I fit the view, it still appears to be finding something at 0,0,0 (resulting in a 600,000'x980,000' view area!).

I also tried the 'Move Vertex' tool but it will not move that vertex.

I also tried the 'Delete Triangle by Line" tool and it had the same result as 'Delete Vertex'.

I think that I can work around it, but the reference to 0,0,0 when fitting the view and the reference to elevation 0, when the rest of my terrain is up around 2100', is quite annoying. I also have concerns that the scale of the terrain may be affecting performance.

One path I haven't tried is to export the terrain to a TIN, modify it with the DTM tools (if possible), and then recreate the terrain from the modified TIN...but that seems like taking two steps back.

    Thanks,

    Tony
