After creating a spiral-curve-spiral between 2 curves, I noticed the curvature of the spiral was inconsistent. A report confirmed this. Where the spiral should have been between 2 clockwise curves, it was created as if it was between a clockwise and a counter-clockwise curve. The images below show the wrong and the correct results, the selection from the report confirms that the spiral is calculated as if it connects to a curve in the opposite direction.Does anyone know how to do prevent this from happening using the spiral-curve spiral option?wrong spiral
correct spiral
Hi Jan,
What product and version number are you using?

This is a fatal flaw for our agency's implementation of ORD. Through 2018 Release 3, ORD does not support creation of combining spirals. That's one reason (of many) we've been slow to adopt it. Creating that geometry requires manual calculation of at least two variables, one them being either the PS or PT. The easiest way we've found to do it is to create the geometry with the legacy InRoads tools. Although I do not know the ticket number, I do know that this Bentley is aware of it.
Holly,
Sorry I forgot to mention it, I'm using Openroads Designer 10.06
Hi Jan: My first thought to try to reach a solutions was to first create a simple curve then add the spirals in a separate operation using the spiral between elements command. However, when I tried to do this ran into various issues. On the chance that I simply did it incorrectly, you might give a look at this process and see if it helps. Even if you have more success than I with the spiral between elements command, you would still need to compute or assume an appropriate offset for the initial simple curve.

Robert,
In this particular case I was able to work around the problem by changing the order in which I designed the complete alignment. However that is not always a viable solution. Also I needed to close the alignment by connecting two separate parts, and using the spiral between elements will create a straight line if necessary, something I needed to avoid. At the moment I can always revert back to MX.
