You are welcome, Dalek, and I am sure that Chuck will concur. Having worked with Bentley software since 1989 (Intergraph at that time), I feel that- in many ways- InRoads SS2 was the most stable and easiest to develop platform, but the interactivity of OpenRoads is miles ahead of InRoads in such regard. The biggest issue I have had is to trash everything I know about InRoads and become more open-minded; mentally flexible. So- in many ways- we have all to be "Dragged kicking and screaming into the world of OpenRoads Designer, LOL :-)

Thanks for the suggestions. I had checked the scales definition file previously, but I must have been asleep that day. I overlooked the fact that the scales I needed had # at each line. I modified the file as needed and now all my scales work and my text appears as expected.

There are some things about ORD that I like, but I will always be partial to Civil 3D. We started using Bentley a few years ago so now I have to support both. I laugh every time I see a post from you and your signature line "Dragged kicking and screaming into the world of Civil 3D, too!". I should add one that says "Dragged kicking and screaming into the world of OpenRoads Designer.

Yes, sir, Chuck. I ran into this issue early last year while attempting to work through MicroStation Connect Edition. It would seem that practically all DOT's have been doing their "own thing" for years and now we have a much more flexible program to use which is revealing such. OpenRoads/ Connect Edition Products- properly developed- are wonderful programs even as there are still a few internal bugs to work out.

I thought that might be the problem.

Bentley does not require one to use DWT (aka seed) files that contain all needed settings. They allow you to store many of these things in DGNLIB's. I think that Civil 3D now has a similar capability. I've been away from Civil 3D for almost 3 Years now, so I'm getting rusty and new features become something I recall reading but not using.

And similar to how fonts are not stored in a DWG file, many other settings that are shared by an office are stored externally. Up until about a year and a half ago, I was having to manage MicroStation Workspaces for about 5 different clients and only one or two for AutoCAD clients. Since returning to the DOT, I am now setting the workspace standards, but my experiences in the consultant world allow me to understand the issues that must be dealt with. I can sometimes recognize when a question sounds like someone coming from a Civil 3D background.

I like Civil 3D's annotation capabilities better than Open Roads - two words - Dragged State!. But I much prefer the template editor in Open Roads. And the Geometry Editing tools in Civil 3D have a lot of capabilities that were similar to InRoads but have not been migrated to Open Roads.

It seems like you are using the Bentley scales.def file which is set to "one inch= X feet". You will need to modify the scales.def file to get proportional scaling. The file is found here by default: C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CE\Configuration\Organization-Civil\_Civil Default Standards - Imperial\Scales. I would comment out (#) the Bentley units and add the following unit definitions:

You may have to modify and/ or add additional entries according to your needs, but I think you will get there. I had to do the same for our seed working units (via client requirements) are in units similar to yours.

Thanks for the replies. After further checking I found my text.dgnlib is set to a resolution of meters. When I changed it to US Survey Feet it changed all my text heights. At this point I gave up and will not use the annotation feature. I'll revisit it later.

I have a new problem. When I insert a field book all of my cells are scaled by 12. My seed file and cell file are both using format MU, Master units are US Survey Feet, Sub units are US Survey Feet and resolution is 1,000 per US Survey Foot. My working dgn file is set the same way (created new from seed file). I can set the scale to Full Scale 1 = 1 and they insert fine. If I change to scale 1" = 10', the cells have a scale factor of 120. How do I remove the scale factor of 12.

BTW, caddcop, I am a career Autodesk user that was recently drug kicking and screaming into the world of OpenRoads Designer.

Check the three .def files - scales, units and sheetsizes. These are often customized by a DOT to meet its needs that are different from the delivered versions. Simply using a seed file is not always enough to get all needed settings.

It would seem that your working units are not the same as Bentley's seed files. As well, it also appears that you may have a feet to inches scaling issue; that you have your styles scaled by 120 gives me that impression. The "easiest" manner in which to accomplish the task is to modify the seed files which the program is referencing to the working units your DOT requires. I am not sure as to whether or not SS3 used Text Favorites (I moved directly from SS2 to Openroads), If it did not, the issue may be within that file (default: C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CE\Configuration\Organization-Civil\_Civil Default Standards - Imperial\Dgnlib\Feature Definitions\Text Favorites_Text Styles_Dimension Styles Imperial.dgnlib).

Best of luck... these have been trying times for many of us, LOL...
