I have a complex terrain model that is comprised from terrain models in two reference files. The primary is an overall base mapping terrain model, and the other reference dgn contains several smaller terrain models that we are merging in to the complex. The problem is that the complex terrain model allready has 30+ terrain models merged. I need to add more, but when I go to Edit Complex Terrain Model, I get the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error, and none of the TMs already merged show as being in the Complex TM. See screenshots below. When I select the complex model and in Element Properties select Edit it gives me the "Object reference" error, as shown in the 1st screenshot below. If I hit OK, it doesn't show any terrain models in the Edit dialog. If i close the dialog, deselect the terrain model, and select Edit Complex Terrain Model from the task bar, it opens the Edit dialog and shows all the terrain models available, but it doesn't show any of the terrains already merged in (Screenshot 2). You can see in the first screenshot in the Element Properties window all the TMs aready in the Complex TM. I don't want to go back and rebuild the complex model for fear of loosing any previous information.
I am working in a ProjectWise environment and all the files are in ProjectWise.
PowerInRoads V8i (SS4) V 08.11.09.878
Can you try it outside ProjectWise and see if it works?

Hi Nico,
When I open the Complex dgn directly from PowerInroads, rather than through PW, it seems to be fine. However, if I make my edits outside of PW, how do I update the server copy without having the file checked out. Is there a way to restore the object reference so that it will work in PW? Or, what is the solution?
Thanks,
Jason
You can just copy the file directly to pw with pw explorer. if you could upload your files here and the steps you are doing, I can investigate further and log a defect if necessary. what version of pw are you using?

Nico, the files are uploading now. I am using PW V10.00.02.320. I could copy the file directly to PW in explorer, but will that break any links for users who have the dgn referenced and the specific terrain model element linked?
Or, if I just create a new version of the document when I copy it, will all links remain in tact?
file referencing should not be affected and when the new file is in pw, it should work just as the old one did.
Nico,
I'm now getting the object reference error even outside of the PW environment. However, I did find that the error only happens when the terrain model is selected, and then in Element Properties dialog, I select Edit. If I first select the Edit Complex Terrain Model tool from the Task Dialog, and then select the Complex TM to edit, it works as expected, inside and outside of PW.
