I have since set active, and saved my alignment to my .alg and .rwk.
Later, I use Evaluation -> Profile -> Create Profile, and plot my vertical alignment. I have two very simple alignments with two very simple vertical alignments in an .alg file. I can import both of them, and for whatever reason, I can edit the vertical alignment of one or them, but not the other. So, the ability to edit verticals is "sometimes there". The only thing that I think is creating the problem, is that the "bad" one has two vertical curves back-to back, with no tangent in between them. After trying for a long time (wasted time), I decided to try to create this vertical alignment using vertical alignment creation tools from SS4, without resorting to importing from native .alg. I find that creating reverse vertical curves is not as intuitive a process as it was in SS2. It is frustrating that something that used to be easy is now a headache.

RE: Why do my VPI disappear when I view profile model an edited and imported profile? - Inroads SS4

When you import from native, you don't have that ability. you should try and do your edits in OpenRoads and don't go back and forth.
