Drape Tool

If any of the GeoPak programming wizards are bored I could really use an application that would drape a 2D property line on a 3D tin.

Maybe Modeller can do this already?

This would be for showing clients where their property lines are in 3D on Topos.

thanks

Neil is probably right.  I haven't tried this but it should work if you visualize triangles and then use the drape tool he mentions.

FWIW - This is a concept we are exploring for a future product.  Not too distant future but not imminent enough that I can share many details yet.

    Hi,

Is this future product a Geopak things or the next generation Bentley Civil product? I am an MX user and hoping to see this next gen product sooner then later. But in saying that I wish you guys from Bentley would share your ideas along the development process. You always say you are going to involve the users but it never seems to happen. Maybe that is why the takeup of the roundabout tool developed by the MX guys is so low.

  • PMFJI, but "the development process" is one that is very complicated and would be very difficult for anyone external to that process to follow. That said, there are folks not in the bentley.com domain who are involved to some aspect. Now, mind you, that is not every user and it is not for the entire process (there are various, legitimate reasons for that), so although some might look at this as "developer know best, user know not", the fact of the matter is that we do not subscribe to that philosophy. Anyone and everyone who provides constructive feedback/input is involved in the process. I know that because some of the folks involved are in proximity to me and I overhear the conversations to that effect all the time. And it goes beyond the Road Design solutions... it is our company culture.

  • Phil is right in that I am not sure even all the Bentley folks understand their own processes. :-) That said...

Can't talk for the MX crew, well, I can't talk for anyone really but I do know that there has been a lot of contact for the new Bentley Civil Platform and users. I know of a couple of dozen different people that have had input/knowledge of this product and direction. If anything, the new Civil Platform has had the most user input of any Bentley civil product yet. The higher ups in this platform are very conscious of what their users are doing and have been going out of their way to get input. If you feel you have any idea, I am certain they would be more than willing to listen to your input. If you haven't done so yet, contact any of the Bentley folks that appear in this forum or your Account Manager and they can put you in touch. Just my $.02
