Looking for a workflow that will allow me to do the following:
1) Take 3D line work that was generated in MicroStation and create an InRoads SS4 civil feature from it. (Ex: Utility company provides 3D line work, and want to "import" it into the dgn as a 6" gas line civil feature)
2) Generate a set of cross sections that displays the newly imported 6" gas line.
Seems simple enough and something that really should be basic to do since it occurs frequently within a typical project workflow, right?
Mike, this is something that you could do with the Subsurface Utilities. It would take a bit of set up if you aren't currently using it. But once configured you could use graphical filters to extract the 3D line work.

Thanks Steven! We are working on SUDA setup, but was looking for something that can be done through the InRoads SS4 commands right now.
You might be able to do this by referencing the 3D line work into your 2D model, copying it in and then using the Profile By 3d element to develop the vertical geometry. It would be a little intensive for a lot of lines, but should get you there.
Crashes is all I get
Have you tried to add the line as a feature to your terrain model? It should show up in your cross-section then
