Hi
Is it posseble to calculate area of terrain with slopes included?
I am using OpenRoads Designer
Regfards
Sigfus
Hi Sigfus,
Maybe try to place a Surface Template and get its surface area property?
Regards,
Mark

Another possible option is to convert the Terrain element into a Mesh, and get the surface area of the mesh.
Hi Mark & Mark
I added Grass surface template, and measured the area with Element method. Could you confirm this approach
I would also appreciate if I could take a minute from you to confirm this calculation for me.
You can download my model from here

Karon.
It seems your template is 0.0003m thick, so you end up with a closed mesh. Your area is almost exactly twice my result as the area of surface template is both the top and bottom surface, plus the 0.0003m strip around the edge (this strip is not in my calculation.)
I created a 'Mesh from element' and selected the original terrain - in the image below, I just moved the mesh (red) to one side. As you can see, Mesh = 17350.5 m2, Surface Template = 34701.3 m2
I think the 'Mesh from element' is the correct workflow. (Please submit an enhancement for measuring area of terrain surface, as it is an obvious thing to want to know.)
Hi Mark. I get the same result with measure area and just picking my terrain triangles. Thanks for your time and help :-)
Measuring the area of the terrains extracted boundary is 16,659.4 m2 so the surface area of the mesh being 17350,5m2 makes sense - is the doubling up of component surface areas a defect or is it supposed to measure the top and bottom?
Slope Area using Quantities by Named Boundary also gives 17,350m2 btw.
