When I try to open a dgn created in Openroads Designer with Opensite, I get the error that "This job was created with Openroads designer version 7, I need to check the product alignment in Online Help, Open as read only"
I have checked Online help and dont see anything on product alignment. I can only open the files in Read Only.
Because of this issue, the dgnlib's in the feature definition folders for Opensite designer have been created in Openroads designer version 7 and cannot be opened in Opensite Designer for editing for my survey codes
and features.
What is the product alignment feature?
Mark, I was wondering if you could help us understand a little here the thought or vision underlying this issue. It seems to me when the move to the "Open" products was discussed early on the DGN was a "universal" file format that was going to allow me to share and use intelligent data between disciplines. (Bridge and Road were the two I was tracking at the time.) It seems that the DGN is no longer filling that role. Within the Civil discipline, we now have three design applications (OpenSite, OpenRoads and OpenRail) that all use some set of the same tools but create .DGN files that are not compatible between them (or potentially between versions of the same software). Why not move to a DGN based file format that indicates the application? OpenSite > .OSD; OpenRoads > .ORD; OpenRail > .ORL or similar. At least then as users we could look at a file and know that it will be for reference only, or that they will be able to manipulate it.

Brilliant Thanks.
