ORD Single Component Mesh for multiple Template Drops

Hej

I am struggling with a 3D modelling outcome. I have a corridor, few km long. Using few templates with a number of components. Single Template (Name it Template A)  is applied few times along corridor. With such approach I get a single mesh from Component (name it Component B) that is present in Template A. With this being said I have a single component mesh with gaps. Start Station and Stop Station fields are populated with values from the very first station when Template A is used to the very last one Template A application. I would understand connecting Components into a single mesh if templates are adjacent but when there is another template drop between the first and the second drop of Template A, I don't see any reasons for connecting meshes. Even If I copy Template A to Template A1, A2, A3 (...) but Component B has a constant name in all copied A components, I still get single mesh with gaps. The only way is to rename all the components, doable with a NotePad or any other Text Editor but I would rather avoid editing ITL in text processor.

The same result is when we have a single template but component is turned off and on along corridor with Display Rules. I got Single mesh for all instances where component is turned on by Display Rule. Eg. I have guardrail when embankment is higher than 3m. I have a single mesh with gaps, but the Start/Stop Station values are the same as for the template drop and not the when display rule turned on the guardraill component.

I tried to split meshes with Microstation Tool by Mesh Connectivity, but then all Civil data are stripped from the mesh. Mesh is divided, no meta data, two new Element IDs are generated and really can not use Item Types Import/Export Instances to fix CiVil data on meshes. Using Asset Manager would be helpful but tedious and time consuming and with Civil Data stripped mapping meta data would be tricky..

Is there a way to get separate mesh per component instances? Eg splited by template drops?

Is there a way to have separate meshes by components displayed by display rules?

Thanks,

Adam

  • First Question, Why do you need one long corridor?  What is the benefit of one corridor?

If you do decide you need one corridor , Here is one solution to your problem.  Edit the template drop after the gap and change the component name.  Just add a "1" after the name. Do the same for the other drops.  If the component have different names they won't connect.  This won't affect quantities or graphical filters etc.. , all OpenRoads tools look for the feature definition name not the component name.

  • I think your solution solves my problem, as I was going to identify the points where embankment and cutting changes adding key stations, now instead I add a new template drope adding the number to the component end. Adam problem wouldnt affect me as I ussualy add rules not depending of component names. Thanks a lot
