I can import my COGO Points (from a text file) into OpenRoads as Civil Points just fine. Now, how do I create a Horizontal Alignment from them like the InRoads SS2 tool - Create / Edit Alignment by COGO Points? I need them associated with the Civil Points so when I move a Point the Horizontal Alignment also updates just like InRoads SS2. Is this possible? I would have expected to be able to snap onto the display of the Points and have them ruled to the location of those points so that if I moved one, the alignment would move too. But it's not working as expected. What am I missing?
Maybe snapping to the points using the Origin Snap will work. That way the alignment should be ruled to the points.
Well, I can't get the Origin Snap to work the way I would like it. If I use it during alignment construction in the Geometry Builder the snap functions as it's supposed to, but when I write the alignment from the Geometry Builder to the DGN file those snaps don't carry across. The Rules end up becoming Key Point Snaps and not Origin Snaps. Worse than that, the alignment isn't Ruled to the COGO Points so any changes to the COGO Points aren't reflected in the alignment that was snapping to them. Creating the alignment using Complex by PI, along with the Origin Snap works pretty good. It snaps to the COGO Points, maintains the Origin Snap Rule, and actually identifies the COGO Point numbers in the alignment Properties (under Geometry Points). Then editing the COGO Point will correctly adjust the horizontal alignment. Apparently the Geometry Builder functions differently than the Complex by PI tool, or something is lost in translation when the Geometry Builder writes the graphics to the DGN file. The Geometry Builder has great promise to replace the Traverse Tool, the Traverse Edit command, and the Create / Edit Alignment by COGO Point tool ... but it's not there yet.

It's been almost 4 years since your original post. Is this working any better for you or have you developed a work around? Thanks.
Kevin Williams - The Geometry Builder hasn't been the best in this context.

Once that PI based alignment is created, you can move the points as needed and the alignment will follow.
You can also use Civil AccuDraw to key-in XY.
Another alternative instead of connected point graphics is using the Table Editor tool on the geometry created by Complex by PI.
