We are setting up 2019 Release 2 Update 7, Everything I have found about moving to the OpenRoads technology seems to center on SS4 and exporting an XML from your SMD and then importing that into SS4. The Survey Feature in ORD seems to have 4 properties. A terrain model attribute, which is pretty self explanatory. Then it has a Zone, an Alpha Code, and a Numeric Code. When I hit F1 for help on these items, the help is simply not good. Where can I get some information on setting these up? My best guess is the the Numeric Code is the old feature code, for instance, for us, a control point is entered into the data collector as 115. Is this the Numeric Code then? Thanks. .
ALPHA CODE: is the code you use in the field to collect data but only letters, for example EP for edge of Pavement, or LP for Light Pole
NUMERIC CODE: Is the code you use in the field to collect data but numbers only, for example 115 for control point , or 100 for edge of pavement
It depends on the agency or company what do they want to use numeric or alpha, some use numeric codes only, some alpha and some both. For example, if you are working with numeric codes on the field, then leave blank the alpha character field. I f you are working with alpha characters, then leave the numeric key-in field empty.
You can have both numeric and alpha in the properties for example CP for control point and 115 for the same control point feature, so the surveyors can have a choice on the field, whatever is easier on the field. One thing I recommend whatever you choose to use on the field you have to be consistent and do not change from numeric to alpha in the middle of the survey on the field. You can not start an edge of pavement chain with code EP and in the middle change to 100 numeric code…..the software will create 2 chains in that case one for EP and another for 100.
