profiles in DESGNRD or MODLRD files

Question

when I'm working on a 3D roadway project. should the profiles be in the roadway (2D) design file or in the 3D model design file? also does it matter where it is located

You do the horizontal alignments and vertical profiles in the 2D model, normally called 'Default'. While it can be done in the 3D model, this is not recommended, so please do not do it in the 3D model.

Gonzaio - I normally have my geometry (and superelevation) in one file (say MODLRD) and my corridor in another (DSGNRD). This way I keep the geometry separate, and can work on that while someone else may work on the corridor. [I put superelevation with geometry as they are linked, in my mind.] 
 So while there is no 'best' way, the way you are doing it is good.
