2019 R3 when!

Hi Bentley,

When can we expect the release of 2019 R3, it's almost the end of January!

I'm very disappointed about the delays without a clear communication it looks like Bentley takes the users not serious enough and we can't make decisions on how to move forward and implement this in our company!

  • Firstly apologies for the delay and lack of communication. We are committed to delivering quality releases and take QA very seriously. Where our QA identifies issues we endeavour to address them but can’t always predict how long this process will take and needed to hold until it was ready but we seem to have been on the verge of release for over a month now.

I understand this is frustrating but the good news is the release has passed all the audits and is in the final stages of posting, so it should be going live to down load any time. Given the timing we have renamed it to 2020R1 and will be posting release announcement when it goes live.

    Regards

    Ian

  • This has made it to the download site and is now available. Looks like a new version of the civil content, so it is not compatible back to the previous versions.

The list of fixes and enhancements would be great to have.

  • A prominent notice when new versions are not backwards compatible would be helpful as well...

Even more helpful would be new versions that ARE backward compatible, so that they don't screw up a project. some projects we work on can be two or three years from beginning to end, and getting two thirds of the way done, only to be hit with an update that doesn't work with the current design can be catastrophic.

  • That's two to three years of design for a moderate size project.  That data is also needed during construction which will be, at a minimum, a year.  Delays in design can cost a few thousand dollars and missed deadlines.  Delays in construction can easily cost a few thousand dollars a day and extended construction delivery dates.  Forward and backward compatibility is not "more helpful", it is necessary!
