We are experiencing dgn files loading slowly with ORD in Projectwise. We have gone as far as commenting out all varies except the absolute necessary ones. (dgnlib, cellist, civil content, seed files, etc...) Still is slow loading between opening files.
We started using Bentley's default workspace as a template but it is so full of open variables and directives it is hard to see what is slowing it down.
Just wondering if anyone has got ORD to run fast as v8i on Projectwise.
We've been working with ORD using 2018R4, then 2019R2, and now 2020R1 inside of ProjectWise for approximately the last 14 months. Speed has been an issue. We have been reliably informed that we should be able to open ORD files with references in between 45 and 60 seconds. For most of last year, my "control" files were sitting at about a minute and a half. We had a big spike in load times when we got close to a design submission in September (3-5 minutes per). Since then, I really didn't have any movement on my load times until I deleted a bunch of levels from our level library. That brought my "control" file load times down in the 1:18 range. The level library is properly defined within the Feature Annotation DGN Library and not attached to each file. We've upgraded RAM throughout the office, including the server that the caching server resides on and tried throwing everything at the wall to get things moving quicker. We're open to new ideas. Comforting to know that commenting everything out in the CFG files isn't helping much.
Conversely, our MicroStation load times are around down to about 30 seconds, and our users are much happier about it.
The two biggest time gains that we have had are when I deleted those levels, and when we upgraded everyone to PW 10.03.00.262. About the only thing I haven't tried is running cable directly to the caching server from my desk.
Edit: I've been updating our files to 2020R1 so haven't tested my control files in this release. I will update this post when I do.
Edit 2: My results from 2020R1 are same as prior. Posting my Level Library warning.
I believe I solved the slow dgn loading problem I posted. Seems ORD searches all resources every time the software opens a file. Awesome right. Well, I added a dummy variable to download all folders before processing resources. Seems to have fixed it. Loads just as fast as v8i did. Here is an example of the variable. _AEC_FOLDER > $(_USTN_WORKSPACESTANDARDS)Dgnlib/;$(_USTN_WORKSPACESTANDARDS)Dgnlib/Line Styles/;$(_USTN_WORKSPACESTANDARDS)Dgnlib/Feature Definitions/;$(_USTN_WORKSPACESTANDARDS)cell/ etc.....
Also , when I say all resources I mean all resources. This includes font folders, preference seed folders, seed files, cells, materials, bumps, rsc, xml, etc.......
See Bentley video below. Note folder paths need "/" at the end to load correctly.

We have found that solid state drives are "must have" for ORD to operate relatively quickly. Are you running soild state drives or platter drives for your workstation/ server? if you combine such with the dummy variable you have incorporated, I believe that you will see enormous performance gains even over what you have already done. If you do have SS drives, then...

There was a Managed Workspace bug until ProjectWise 10.00.03.262 that kept us waiting 30s+ just to switch files once already in, but much better now

Question, is the delay the initial startup, the MWS dialog or switching files?
