  • So, like i said originally, "

How to permanently disable automatic annotation in sheet models"

  • Since this hasn't been answered, I'm guessing the answer is no. Can Bentley add this to a future version of ORD? Having the text update automatically is a nice feature when you are laying out the alignment, but once you have the sheets created it becomes a nuisance.

The best solution would be for the text to update with design changes but stay in it's current location. Having the text jump back to it's "anchor point' is what causes the problem on our end.

  • They need to add something like the Dragged State that Civil 3D supposts for its annotation, where if you drag an annotation away from its default location, it retains that offset even if the underlying element is modified. And if one selects a Dragged State annotation, it has a reset option that can be used to reset the annotation to its default location. It also supports an alternate display for Dragged State, if you define one. I believe you can effectively turn off a particular annotation within an annotation group, too.

  • Or just a big red button that says "disable automatic annotation updates". It could go in the model properties, perhaps.

In my case, we have several vertical curves on one sheet. We need to be able to move, or delete parts of this annotation and have it not come back. An example for deleting is using a manual label with leader to callout objects that run off the edge of the sheet, or overlap some other part of the drawing. Or perhaps the vertical lines or arrows used to show VPI and length information run off the page or are overlapping some other area of the drawing. While this affects the specific curve that is being manually edited, we still need the annotation for the other curves, so removing it form the annotation group is not viable.

We need to be able to delete and or manually edit these items without them coming back the next time the drawing is opened. if this ability was not put in this software then it was a severe oversight on Bentley's part.

As it currently stands, anytime we want to print our plan sheets, these items have to be "re-edited", and the sheets printed before leaving the file. This is a huge waste of time.

  • I am currently using 2020R3 and this issue seems to remain. If I annotate the default model the changes to the annotation remain, but if I leave the linework un-annotated and annotate in a drawing model (which I believe IS the recommended manner), then the linework which is referenced to the drawing model will re-annotate. Like others have already stated, this is a HUGE waste of time to modify text which has already been modified for correct appearance. Profiles are the biggest issue because one can ONLY generate alignment text within the drawing model(s)

Now, I do understand that any linework changes which take place should be re-annotated (as a "refresh), but if I have not made any changes to my linework, the program should NOT create a "refresh". So annoying and it MUST be fixed.
