openroads designer dgn save to lower version

Hello  everyone,

please suggest how I can save my DGN in lower version in openroads designer.

DGN is prepared in 2020 release 1 and its not opening in 2019 release 2 so please suggest how I can covert it to it's lower version so it will also open in lower version of openroads designer.

Regards

Vishnu

  • In v10.9, you can save back to v10.8 or v10.7. File > Downgrade Civil Model

  • I see that this thread is a bit stale, but I'm hoping that is due to a newly discovered work around or fix. I currently have a Topo file in version 10.09 but the client only works in 10.08. Is there anything that can be done to make this work?

If not, how does Bentley envision being able to work with this? As new updates come around to either fix broken tools or add missing tools, I will need to make a fresh installation to have 10.08 and 10.09 on my machine? Then selecting my project from the list, I will need to know which projects were created in which versions? Will each version require it's own workspace? Am I missing something?

    Any sage advice is welcome!

  • Mark, I want to be begin by thanking you for the support you provide all of us on the forums, I am grateful for it. I understand that your are not involved in development, but you do work for Bentley. As MaryB and caddcop have eluded to, this is a significant issue, that does need to be addressed. So, as you suggest, I will raise this issue as a service request and will encourage any one else to do so if that is the needed path to get this addressed. Second, I pose this question: Who is it at Bentley that I should contact to find answers to this question?

  • No, please, pile on. This is an issue that's only going to get worse as more companies & institutions have to get on board with ORD. I suspect it hasn't gotten any attention because so many players still aren't using it yet.

The ability to load more than one version could go a long way toward mitigating this problem. Keeping versions straight may be a pain, but it's nowhere near as catastrophic as being unable to work.

  • Not to pile on, but in a previous life, the firm I worked for had many clients requiring many different versions of DWG/Civil 3D. We were able to install multiple versions on our users PC's so they could run the appropriate version for the client requirements.

Is there a method that would allow the installation of multiple versions of Open Roads Designer? If there is not, there needs to be. Consider that at that firm, we worked for DelDOT, MD DOT Mass Transit & Highway Administration. They were usually all on different versions. And at another firm even further back, we did work for those three agencies and NYSDOT, CT DOT and probably more.

Even now, at the DOT, having to roll out new version across the board so that all team members can work in the same version would be problematic, as we do not maintain lists of who's working with who on a project by project basis and may not have the "authority" to migrate a project from one version to the next, just because we need (or want) to roll out the new version.
