From what I can tell, plan and profile annotation groups are set in the base geometry file's feature symbology settings. My problem is, I have other exhibits that use the same alignment but I want to use a different annotation group for the plan and profile. Is there a way to use a different annotation group in an exhibit file when referencing in my base geometry file?

I voted up on this and added a comment.
As I was, I thought of a possible workaround.
In V7 and V8, we had some offices that used different RSC files for certain linestyles. In the workspace, you would identify the office/discipline and the CFG variables would redirect these RSC files to an alternate location. As long as the line style names were the same, it would display them correctly for each office. So, what if you had duplicate names in different DGNLIBS? When a person from one office used the tools, they would get one display and when someone from another uses the tools, they get a different display?
Also, if the only solution is a copied alignment, could an alignment be created that was ruled as parallel to the original with zero offset and then it would automatically update if the original was modified?
