All views open when opening an additional view - Any fix?

This is a common problem and has been for a long time.  It is caused by a delay in registering the mouse click while the ORD code is spinning its wheels under the hood.  If you pay close attention, you will see what seems to be happening:

• When  click the view number you want, do so deliberately and slowly without moving the cursor.
• Notice as the view opens that there is much flashing and dancing in the interface. This is ORD adapting to the presence of a new view, apparently resetting the entire interface.
• If you never move your cursor during all this dancing then all is well.
• But if you do move (which is the natural thing to do) then you will open multiple views as the cursor drags across them.

I have found only the following workarounds. I don't know which is worst or best:

1. be very careful when opening the view as described above.
2. click you view number and then be careful to move the cursor straight up, as someone else also described.
3. Just work as normal and take your chances, knowing you will potentially need to close 5 extra views.
