Microstation requires me to have Internet Explorer installed. OpenRoadsDesigner is based on Microstation technology. This leads me to believe that ORD also needs IE to be installed, however I cannot find anything on this. Does anyone know wether or not I need Internet Eplorer? Also Internet Explorer will be replace by Edge in the future... how will this work out for (future) Bentley products?

With the older V8 it was a component needed to render text within the Word Processor. V8 relied on IEcapabilities. With V8i and Connect; I have no idea why. But that is what the documentation says.

Hence my question. IE does not even need to be the standard browser, it just needs to be there.
IT is going to switch browsers and I want clear documentation as to what is needed. Just to prevent things from going sideways.

Yes, but this component is not IE itself, it's just an independent component, installed typically with IE.

In my opinion you are mixing IE as end user product and a set of libraries, developed originally for IE, but later so often used by Windows and other applications, that in fact are part of Windows itself.
Because of this very tight and complicated dependency, I think that Microsoft is still unable to remove IE from Windows completely.

As far as I remember, libraries related to IE (installed separately or as part of IE), are used e.g. for:
In my opinion these dependencies will be not removed from MicroStation soon (there are not many replacements available), but it's up to Microsoft, when he will allow to remove IE as application, but allow to keep or to install all necessary libs separately.
Because there are still many enterprises and corporate solutions optimized for IE, not able to work anywhere else, I guess IE will be there for several next years ;-)

Thanks for clarifying. Wether this concerns IE or merely IE components does not really matter, since I'm pretty certain IT isn't going to sift through those components to pick the right ones. Especially since many more tools require IE.Anyway, you mentioned Connection Client which is installed with... well anything that Bentley does, so that answers my question.
